Trying to conceive? In this blog post, we share 5 things you can do immediately to improve your fertility. We’ve got our fingers crossed for you! 

#1: Use less plastics

Plastics are a huge disrupter of our reproductive system, and if you’re trying to get pregnant, you should avoid plastics wherever possible. One simple thing you can do? Avoid getting takeout, and reheating food in plastic containers.

#2: Swap out your personal care products 

Not many people know this, but there are plenty of personal care products (soap, shampoo, makeup, etc) that contain harmful and/or disruptive chemicals. These may wreak havoc on your fertility, and make it harder for you to get pregnant.

As a general rule of thumb, try and purchase personal care products which are “paraben free”. Also check out this list of non-toxic skincare, makeup and perfume brands.

#3: Start sleeping at the same time every night

Sleep earlier on weeknights, but stay up on Fridays and Saturdays to make the most of your weekend? It’s time to change that. Try and stick to a regular routine, and sleep at the same time every night

What’s the rationale behind this? When you establish regular sleep habits, this helps you regulate your body’s production of Leptin. This hormone affects ovulation in women, meaning that women who don’t get sufficient sleep (and produce enough Leptin) may find their menstrual cycles and ovulation disrupted.

#4: Start leading a more active lifestyle

Even if you can’t afford to hit the gym thrice a week, you can easily incorporate small doses of exercise into your daily life. For instance, take the stairs instead of the lift, alight one stop earlier when you’re taking the bus and walk the rest of the way, or take the long and scenic route to your destination (instead of using the shortcut).

#5: Don’t overdo it when it comes to fitness

It’s important to stay active, but if you exercise religiously everyday, you could become too lean. This affects your fertility, and makes it harder for you to get pregnant.

How does this work? Women who push their bodies too hard may develop Hypothalamic Amenorrhea (HA), a condition where your menstruation stops for several months at a time due to your body having too little fat. If that happens, you won’t ovulate, making it impossible to conceive.
