5 tips to ease yourself out of a sedentary lifestyle and boost your fertility
Now, we all know that exercising on a regular basis and leading an active lifestyle helps couples get pregnant more easily. But if you work long hours, and you’re bound to your desk for the bulk of your day, then how can you negate the effects that all that inactivity has on your fertility? In this article, we bring you 5 simple tips to ease yourself out of a sedentary lifestyle and boost your fertility!
#1: Use a timer
First up on our list of tips to combat a sedentary lifestyle is… use a timer!
It’s easy to tell yourself that you’ll step away from your workstation, and stretch your legs once every hour… but what typically happens is that you get so engrossed in your work, and this completely slips your mind.
To counter this, simply use a timer that will remind you to get up and stretch every so often. These 5 free apps will get the job done.
#2: Take calls standing up
If you really can’t get away from your desk, then designate certain activities as activities that you’ll do while standing up. Say you have a Skype call with your team every Monday, for example. Simply stand up for the duration of your call, instead of remaining seated.
#3: Stand up and move around during commercial breaks
Watching cable at home? Make use of those commercial breaks in between your show to get in some exercise. If you’re feeling ambitious, do a couple of sit-ups or push-ups; alternatively, you can also get up and do simple chores such as folding the laundry, or washing the dishes.
#4: Park further away from your destination
If you drive regularly, here’s a great way to increase the amount of walking that you’ll do: park a little further from your destination than you would normally do. It’s just a few extra minutes of walking that you’re doing on a day-to-day basis, but it adds up (and gets rid of that sedentary lifestyle) in the long run!
#5: Work out at home using HIIT exercises
Hands up – who’s bought that gym or yoga membership thinking that they’ll work out once a week, but then never utilized it?
We get it – it’s tough to discipline yourself to hit the gym after a long, hard day at work, especially when all you want to do is get home as quickly as possible, and hit the sack. Instead of forcing yourself to head to the gym, try something that’s easier to commit to, such as a quick 5-minute HIIT workout at home.
